Ciccone, entering the final in the winner's bracket, would need to win just one match to capture the title, while Johnson, Cheektowaga, would need to defeat Joe twice by virtue of her one previous loss in the double-elimination tournament.
It was Johnson who took the early lead in the first match, taking the first two games 238-218 and 247-232 to grab
a 35-pin lead going into the third game of the first title match. However, an early string in game 3 by Ciccone put him
back in contention.
