The Maryvale "A" team was able to hold off a strong charge by the runner-up Lancaster High School "A" squad in the final game of the three-game event for a 40-pin victory.
Maryvale was led by Justin Zimmerman, who rolled the event's second highest set with 737. Kenmore West's Vito Russo led all the boys with a 753 effort, his team finishing in 11th place.
The Lockport squad used a tournament high 667 series from Jena Lea Geiger to roll to a 49 pin victory over the girls "A" squad from Frontier High School. Frontier's Ally Harvey was tops in single game scores on the girls side with 246.
Rounding out the top 5 on the girls side was North Tonawanda, Niagara Falls, and Tonawanda, in 3rd through 5th places, respectively. Michelle Granier, Niagara Falls, rolled the second best three-game total with 651, while North Tonawanda's Brianna Larson was third with 636.
The boys top five was filled out by 3rd place Clarence "A", Tonawanda in 4th place, and West Seneca East in 5th. Joining Russo and Zimmerman in the top three series of the day was Canisius's Anthony Calabrese, matching Zimmerman with 737.
Drew Overholt, Tonawanda, rolled the top game of the day, with a fine 298 honor score effort.
The event was sold out with 66 High School teams competing, 35 on the boys side and 31 in the girls division.
