Vincennes Men, Hudson Valley Women Claim NJCAA National Titles

Vincennes University earned their 16th Men's title, while Hudson Valley Community College claimed their 3rd Women's title at the 40th Annual National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Bowling Championships, held this weekend at AMF Thruway Lanes in Cheektowaga.

Vincennes, Vincennes, IN, rolled to a 755 pin margin over second place Hudson Valley Community College, Troy, NY.

The Trailblazers victory came on the strength of the top two players in Individual All-Events play, as Gerod Qualls took the All-Events title with a 231.9 average for his 12 games, and teammate Jack Sullivan took the second spot individually with an average of 227.3.

The Hudson Valley Vikings also cleared their competition by a strong margin in the Women's standings, 642 to the good over runner-up and tournament hosts Erie Community College.

Hudson Valley posted the top two spots of the Women's Individual All-Events list as well, with Devan Hodlik rolling to the top average of 211.9, followed by Rebecca Duncan with an average of 205.4.

Erie Community College rounded out the top three on the Men's side, while Mohawk Valley Community College finished in the 3rd place slot for the Women.

Host Erie Community College placed six players on the All-American lists, which are based on final standings in the All-Events of the weekend event. Victoria Harvey was the highest finisher for the Kats, finishing in third place for the Women and averaging 203.6 in the event. She was joined on the Women's All-American list by teammates Gina Maduri and Corey Bernard.

Jake Kent of ECC rolled to a 220.6 average for the weekend, placing highest for the squad on the Men's side and in a tie for 4th with Hudson Valley's Bill Pulver. Joining Kent on the men's All-Americans were teammates Tom Tucker and David Zajac.

The victory by the Vincennes University men puts them within one title of the record for most team victories, held by Erie Community College with 17 National Titles. The ECC women's program holds the record with 26 titles since the inception of the women's division in 1977.
