Sam Carter (L) accepts the spoils of his Mini-Eliminator scratch division victory from tournament sponsor Richie Sposato of Lane #1
Carter defeated last winter's Mini-Eliminator champion Rick Miller, Lincoln, NE, to win the scratch division of the event and the top prize of $20,000.
Meyerhoff defeated Las Vegas' Robert Yadao in the finals of the handicap division to cash the $10,000 first place handicap check.
The final match in the scratch event was a rematch of last year’s tournament but this time the results were reversed. Carter lost the title to Miller last winter, and this time Rick took the early lead with a spare and 5 consecutive strikes. Sam started with an open in the first frame (2-10 split) but then rolled 8 consecutive strikes. Sam went on to need a mark to clinch the title, easily converting a 7 pin to win the match 258-247.
The Handicap Mini-Eliminator finals featured two West Coast bowlers; Meyerhoff, who qualified for the finals in the 220 & under division with a 693 in the Thursday 2pm squad, and Yadao, from the 199 & under division, who qualified for the finals in the Wednesday 2pm squad with a 708 series.
The final match started with Robert getting 5 extra pins in handicap. The match was close through the first seven frames until Vic rolled off 3 consecutive strikes to secure the victory. The final score was 235 to 217. Robert earned $5,000 for his second place finish.
Several special events were held during Mini-Eliminator week. The Lane #1 Shootout crowned two champions both earning $2,500. The scratch shootout winner was J.C. Zuniga of Tulsa, OK. J.C. earned his title by defeating Steve Warren, San Diego, CA, 255-234. Steve earned $1,500 for his runner-up position. The handicap champion shootout finals was incredibly close as Robert Rozycki, Allen Park, MI defeated Darrin Remiticado, Stockton, CA 252-251. Darrin earned $1,500 for his second place finish.
The 2011 Winter Mini-Eliminator attracted over 1200 entries, and was sponsored by Lane #1 bowling balls, Kegel, Virtualtournaments.com, Knockout Ball Cleaner, and South Point Hotel & Casino. The Summer Mini-Eliminator will be moving to a new location; the 72 lane Strike Zone located inside Sunset Station Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Preliminary dates for the summer event will be Monday, June 27 through Saturday, July 2nd.
