Matt O'Grady took home the $5,000 top prize at the 9th Bud Light Challenge Saturday

Matt O'Grady, South Amboy, NJ, defeated top seed and former PBA Tournament of Champions winner Dave D'Entremont, Middleburg Heights, OH, to take the championship in Bud Light Challenge 9, held Saturday at AMF Thruway Lanes in Cheektowaga.

O'Grady rolled through three opponents in the stepladder finals of the event, culminating with a 264-216 title match victory over D'Entremont, in which he started with the first nine strikes to lock up the title.

D'Entremont, who had earned the top seed for the finals, received $2,500 for his runner-up finish.

O'Grady had been defeated in a 9th and 10th frame roll-off by John Furey, Freehold, NJ, giving Furey the number 2 seed for the finals, and sending O'Grady into an opening match with Adam Barta, of Akron, OH.

After holding off a late charge by Barta to win the opening match 244-233, O'Grady then defeated Furey 225-214 to advance to the title match.  Furey pocketed $1,300 for his third place finish, while Barta took home $900 for fourth.

The 9th Bud Light Challenge attracted a field of 206 bowlers.  In addition to the main event, the Friday Night Doubles event attracted 59 doubles teams and was captured by Dave Guindon, West Seneca, NY, and Pat DesJardins, Ontario, Canada.
