CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. - Michigan's Andrew Anderson took home the top prize over Canada's Zach Wilkins as he claimed victory at BL Challenge 14, at AMF Thruway Lanes in Cheektowaga.

Anderson defeated Wilkins 223-185 in the final match of the top 4 stepladder finals to take home the $5,000 first place check, while Wilkins took home $2,500 for second place.

Wilkins had won the first two matches of the stepladder final, defeating Dan Higgins 226-221 in the opening match, before knocking off #2 seed and former BL Challenge champion Jean-Sebastien Lessard, 199-190 in the semifinal match.

Lessard earned $1,350 for his third place finish, while Higgins collected $1,000 for fourth.

Anderson was the highest qualifier of the top 4 finishers prior to the head-to-head elimination rounds, qualifying in 5th place with a 1254 6-game total.  Wilkins, the eventual runner-up, was the cut in 31st place with a 6-game score of 1193.

Steve Meyer, Rochester, N.Y., led the qualifying round with a 6-game total of  1325, just 5 pins ahead of defending champion Vern Peterson.

Anderson made it a two-win weekend as he teamed with Canada's Russell Serwetnyk to win the Friday Night KR Strikeforce Doubles, and split the $1,500 first place prize with their 1320 total for 3 games.  Jeff Fehr and Ken Abner finished second with 1291 for $800.

Chicago's Matt Gasn rounded out the weekend with a win in the Sunday KR Strikeforce Eliminator, good for a winner's share of $2,000.  Shannon Sellens collected $1,000 as runner-up in the event, while Jen Higgins finished third and earned $500.

The BL Challenge Saturday main event once again featured a field of 210 competitors.
